Question

name the carbohydrates used as storge molecules to store energy in animals

Open in App
Solution

In animals, glycogen is used to store energy. It is structurally similar to glucose polymer and is more densely branched sometimes called 'animal starch'. Glycogen's properties allow it to be metabolised very fast, which suits the active lives of moving animals. It is made primarily by the liver and the muscles, but can also be made within the brain and stomach.
