It is zona pellucida of egg which gets modified by a secretion reaction known as cortical reaction or zona reaction to prevent polyspermy. This membrane is composed of mucoplysaccharides. After the entry of a sperm into ovum, this membrane, become impermeable to other sperms, by the process of zona reaction, thus preventing polyspermy.
