Question

Name the `new readership' of Europe on early 18th Century

Open in App
Solution

Following industrialisation, a new readership for novels started emerging in Europe from the early 18th century. Initially, these novels were expensive and hence, only the emerging middle class, along with the traditional aristocratic and land-owning classes, formed the readership of these books. However, with the introduction of circulating libraries from the mid-eighteenth century, the poorer working class could get easier access to these novels.
