Plasma is the liquid part of the blood. It is a yellowish fluid and made up of ninety percent of water.
The cellular portion of blood normally makes up about 45% of the blood volume and it consists primarily of three cellular components White blood cells ( leukocytes), platelets, and Red blood cells ( erythrocytes).
Functions of Blood:
- Blood transports the digested food from small intestine to the other parts of the body.
- Blood carries oxygen from the lungs to other parts of the body and carries CO2 from the body parts to lungs for purification.
- Blood transports waste for removal from the body.
- During injury, blood clots and save the organism from blood loss.
- Blood regulates body temperatures.
- Blood shows defense action against foreign bodies.
