Question

(numerical question):-HOW FAR APART TWO PROTONS BE IF THE ELECTROSTATICS FORCE EXERTED BY ONE ON THE OTHER IS EQUAL TO WEIGHT OF THE ELECTRON ?

Open in App
Solution

Force between two charges is given by
F=kq1q2/r2
Here F=mass of electron
=9.1*10-31kg
F=9.1*10-31N
Charge on proton is 1.6 *10-19c
Putting in equation

9.1*10-31=9*109 (1.6 *10-19)2/r2
r 2= 9*109 (1.6 *10-19)2/9.1*10-31
2.53*102 m
r= 15.90 m
