Solution

CuO when reacts with dil. HCl it form CuCl2. The reaction can be written as follows:

CuO(s) + 2HCl(aq) --> CuCl2(aq) + H2O(l)
Actually the colour is not due to CuCl
. The blue colur is due to the formation of complex ion of copper with water molecules.[Cu(H2O)6]2+. When copper form complex with chloride ion it gives yellow colour [CuCl4]2-, If there is a mixture of [Cu(H2O)6]2+ and [CuCl4]2-It gives green colur to the solution.
