The gravitational potential depends on the mass of the Earth , mass of the object and the distance of the centre of the earth from the object
while the acceleration due to gravity depends only on the mass of the earth and the distance of the centre of the earth from the object.

The value of acceleration due to gravity and gravitational potential decreases with increase of depth below earth’s surface
