Oxygen produced during photosynthesis is a waste product. Is it true? Justify.
Oxygen is released not as a waste but as a byproduct in the process of photosynthesis.
During photosynthesis, the chlorophyll pigments absorb solar energy from sun and break down water molecules. Breaking of water molecule releases hydrogen ion (H+) and oxygen. The H+ ions accumulate to produce ATP and the oxygen is released free out of the plant body.
