Question

A horizontal force of magnitude F=117N is used to push a box of mass m=78 kg from rest to a distance d=27m. How fast is the box moving after this displacement?

Solution

SInce the F = 117 N which is by Newton's second law = ma
where m = mass
a = acceleration of the mass
117 = 78 * a
Hence a = 1.5 m/s2
Since s = 27, we can use v2-u2 = 2*a*s
where u = 0
v2 = 2 * 1.5 * 27
v = 9 m/s
