A Patron is a wealthy, influential person who offers financial and other support to writers, artists and the like. Most rulers supported artists like musicians, painters, sculptors and others. Even writers and poets received patronage from rulers and kings. These rulers also offred patronage to one or many religions. For instance, Akbar is known to have given patronage to nine gems or navaratnas in his court which included Birbal, Tansen, Raja Todarmal and others.
