Question

a body thrown in the vertically upward direction rises upto a height „h and comes back to the position of its start. Calculate

(a) the total distance travelled by the body and

(b)the displacement of the body.

Under what condition will the magnitude of the displacement be equal to the distance

travelled by an object

Open in App
Solution

(a) As body has gone up to a height h and return back thus the total path length covered is 2h and hence the distance travelled is 2h.

(b) As the body returns to its initial point and thus no change in position of body thus displacement is zero.

(c) When a body travels in a straight line then its distance and displacement will be the same.
