a) if they are acting in the same direction?

b) if they are acting in the opposite directions.?

(a) If the forces are acting in the same direction,
Then the resultant force will be=12+8=20 N
The direction of resultant force is same as that of individual forces.
(ii) If the forces are acting in the opposite direction,
then the resultant force will be=12-8=4 N
The direction of the resultant force is same as that of larger force 12 N.
