Question

why water is required by seeds to carry out the process of germination?

Open in App
Solution

Water is required during germination to carry out the physiological activities of the embryo. These physiological activities include respiration, protein synthesis, enzyme preparation and some other metabolic activities within seed. By enzymatic activity, the food is digested to soluble form and is used by developing embryo. Through the transfer of food, radicle and plumule begin to grow and thus germination occurs.
