Two trains A and B are moving with velocity 54 km/h in a parallel track opposite to each other and a monkey is moving on the roof of train Bagainst the direction of motion with speed of 10 m/s .Calculate :

1- Relative velocity of train A with respect to train B

2- Relative velocity of train B with respect to train A

3- Relative velocity of monkey with respeect ti train A

4- Relative velocity of ground with respect to monkey.

Solution

Velocity of both the trains=54 km/h=15m/s
  1. Rel velocity of train A wrt train B is=54-(-54)=108 km/h
  2. Rel velocity of train B wrt train A is=-54-(+54)=-108 km/h
  3. Rel velocity of the monkey wrt train A is =-15 -(+15)+10=-20 m/s=-72 km/hr
  4. Rel velocity of the ground wrt monkey is=0-10-(-15)=5 m/s
