Question

Redox Reactions: Oxidation and Reduction Reactions

Q1)

Which of the following reactions is not a redox reaction?

  • NH4Cl + KOH → NH3+ H2O +KCl

  • 2Rb + H2O → 2RbOH + H2

  • Zn + 2AgCN → 2Ag + Zn(CN)2

  • 2CuI2→ 2CuI + I2

Ans :

NH4Cl + KOH → NH3+ H2O +KCl

In the reaction, no element is going to reduce and oxidise, hence it is not a redox reaction.

but in (A) hydrogen is getting oxidised and potassium is reduced.

Solution

In the given equation:
NH4Cl + KOH → NH3+ H2O +KCl
The oxidation state of any of the element is not changing after the reaction hence it is not a redox reaction.
