Phosporous is stored in water to prevent its reaction with oxygen but water also has oxygen molecules so why does it not react. I is because phosporous in insoluble in water?

Water is a covalent molecule in which oxygen and hydrogen atoms are chemically combined. There is no free oxygen in water. So, phosphorus kept in water cannot react with oxygen of water.
