Question

Q1. State five differences between evaporation, condesation and precipitation

Open in App
Solution

Evaporation is the process of conversion of water from its liquid state to the gaseous state. This gaseous state of water is also known as water vapour. This is the first step of water cycle in which water leaves the Earth's surface and enters the atmosphere as a gas. This occurs when water takes heat from the surroundings to get converted into gas phase. This results in slight lowering of temperature of the surroundings.

Condensation is the process of conversion of water vapour back into liquid water. Condensation is very important to our weather and climate because it is responsible for cloud formation when water vapours gets condensed around some particles. In this process heat is released. It is the second phase of water cycle.

Precipitation is the next phase of the water cycle. Precipitation occurs when water from the atmosphere fall on earth in the form of rain, sleet, snow, hail, or freezing rain.
