Question

Show that the area under the velocity time graph of a body gives the displacement of the body during that time interval

Open in App
Solution

Consider a graph in which velocity is in the y axis and time in x axis .When we plot the velocity and the time of the object is plotted in the graph we get a straight line . So now from the graph we can say that the displacement made by the body is the product of the velocity of the body and the time taken by the body.So it is the area of the rectangle or square formed by the line.

A constant velocity shows area under the line in the graph is the distance travelled.

Displacement = velocity x time.

Hence area under the velocity time graph = Displacement.
