There is a lack of moisture in areas of strong trade winds whereas weak trade winds carry rainfall in the inland areas. The monsoons are a seasonal phenomenon caused by moisture laden southeast trade winds that collect moisture as they cross over seas.
The trade winds are very steady in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans but in the Indian ocean, their journey is abrupted by the large landmass of the Indian sub continent. They therefore, bring rainfall to the eastern coast of the countries lying within the tropics.
