Question

sodium chloride does not exist as molecules but aggregates of oppositely charged ions .why?

Open in App
Solution

NaCl is an ionic compound. All ionic compounds adopt a three-dimensional structure in which the ions are close to many ions of the opposite charge. The distance between the oppositively charged ions is very small and thus force of attraction between these ions is strong enough to form aggregates of oppositely charged ions
