Solution

  • Translocation is the process of movement of materials from leaves to all other parts of the plant body. Leaves of the plants perform photosynthesis and produce carbohydrates (sugar) which are translocated to the non photosynthetic parts (roots, flowers, fruits) of the plant through special tissues called phloem.

  • During photosynthesis, the formed carbohydrates from leaves are transported to non photosynthetic parts of plants like roots, stem tissues & other developing organs. This transport is carried out by the process of translocation. Therefore, translocation is essential in plants to carry out long distance transport between leaves and other plant parts.

  • Sugars are synthesized in the leaves of plants.
  • Plant hormones unlike animal hormones are not secreted by any gland. However, each plant cell can produce hormones.
