Solution

Germany played a key role in the events Second World War. Under the rule of Adolf Hitler, it embarked on a policy of expansion. There was a feeling that Germany had been humiliated by the Treaty of Versailles after the First World War. This gave rise to a wave of nationalism which was utilised by Hitler to acquire power. Germany aggresively built up its military capabilities and allied itself with Italy and Japan. Initially, the attack by Germany over Poland led to war with England and France. The desire for living space for Germans led to attack for the conquest of Eastern Europe. This was disastrous for them as they faced defeat at the hands of the Soviet Red Army and the Allied powers.

The Tripartite agreement was signed between Germany, Japan and Italy in 1940 to form an alliance against the European powers. For Germany, it secured the objective of achieving international power and creating multiple fronts against England and France.

The USA entered the Second World War due to aggression by Japan. It was initially inwilling to join the war. However, it changed its mind after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941 and joined the war.
