Classify the following into levers as class I, class II or class III:
1. A door 2. Catapult 3. Wheelbarrow 4. Fishing rod.
Hi Arjun!
1. Door – Second class lever (Because the weight of the door (resistance) is in between the hinges (fulcrum) and the handle (effort) of the door.)
2. Catapult – Third class lever (The effort is applied between the fulcrum and the load. The direction of effort is not changed)
3. Wheelbarrow - Second class lever (The resistance is in between the force and the axis)
4. Fishing rod – Fishing rod can be third class lever, if the base is fixed to something and the force is applied at the middle. If the lower end is used to push, then it will be a first class lever.
Cheers!!
