Hydrogen is the richest element in the universe. It is the main element which makes up the sun and other stars. On earth hydrogen does not exists freely.

Hydrogen occurs in combined form in water, petroleum, natural gas, coal, clay, in plants, animals etc. Hydrogen is a clean burning fuel .When reacted with oxygen in fuel cell it produces heat and electricity. Hence if there was free hydrogen on earth, then life on earth would have been impossible due to its heat evolving reactions.
