In the ball and socket joint of shoulder, the head of humerus is kept closed in socket (glenoid cavity) by ligaments and cartilage. This joint can became loose after trauma or sever accident which damages ligaments and other tissues leading to shoulder instability. In shoulder instability the head of humerus moves out of the socket sometimes which lead to extreme pain and difficulty in moving the hand across shoulder. So, if the bone is not held tightly in socket the joint will not be able to work properly.
