Solidarity was a trade union formed after the 21 point agreement with the government. It was the first time an independent trade union had been formed in any of the communist states. Within a year, it had swept across Poland and consisted of more than one crore members. Revelations of widespread corruption and mismanagement in the government made it worse for the rulers.
