Question

what is atmospheric pressure ? why we are not affected by it ?

Open in App
Solution

Air is all around us and above us. Now this air has got weight (which is force due to its mass) and this weight acts on the surface area of earth. Thus a pressure is generated on earth’s surface because pressure = force/area. In simple words pressure exerted by the atmosphere is atmospheric pressure.

We are not affected by the high atmospheric pressure because our internal pressure balances the external atmospheric pressure.
