Question

speed of sound in solid , liquid and gases

Open in App
Solution

Speed of sound depends upon the type of material (or type of solid liquid or gas) it passes through. We cannot have a common speed of sound for a particular phase (density). Speed of sound also depends upon temperature.

So, we can have the following ...

In solids it ranges from about 1330 m/s to 12000 m/s

In liquids it ranges from about 900 m/s to 200 m/s

In gases it ranges from about 250 m/s to 1500 m/s
