Question

State archimedes principle.

Find out the density of aluminium if its relative density is 2.7 and the density of water is 1000 kgm^-3

Open in App
Solution

According to Archimedes principle,
When a body is immersed wholly or partially in a liquid, it experiences an upward buoyant force of magnitude equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by it.
Buoyant force acting on the body = Weight of displaced liquid

Here,
Relative density = 2.7
Density of water = 1000 kg m^-3
Density of aluminium=?
Using the formula of relative density,
Relative density of aluminium=Density of aluminium / Density of water
or Density of aluminium=Relative density of aluminium x Density of water
=2.7 x 1000=2700 kg/^m3
