Open in App
Solution

The importance of chromosomal difference between sperms and eggs of humans :

  • Different chromosomes have different genes which codes for different proteins. The proteins coded by Y chromosome are responsible for formation of male gonads and male reproductive system, where as proteins coded by X chromosome are responsible for formation of female reproductive system.

More detail (not necessary) :

The two sexes participating in sexual reproduction must be some what different from each other, so that they can produce different gametes. This can be only possible by the chromosomal difference between the sperm and the egg. Same gametes are not compatible with each other. An egg can not fuse with an egg as both are non motile so, there is no way how one egg gamete will reach other. On the other hand a sperm can not fuse with other sperm despite the fact they both are motile. This is because sperms are very small and have very less cytoplasm and no yolk. Thus after fusion they can not nourish zygote.
