If an oxide reacts with both acids and bases, then it is known as an amphoteric oxides.
Al2O3 + HCl → AlCl3 + H2O
Al2O3 + 2 NaOH → Na2AlO2 + 2 H2O
So it is evident that Al2O3 is an amphoteric oxide.
