Question

why is parallax method not used for measuring distances beyond 100 light years?

Open in App
Solution

When the observed stars are too far away, the parallax can be too small to measure accurately and thus the distance measured will be less precise.

The limitation of parallax method is 100 pc not 100 light years. 1 pc = 3.26 light years, thus the limitations in terms of light year is 326 light year.
