Question

Why water starts boiling when lime is added to it?

Do all changes involve change in energy? A ball thrown up falls down due to pull of earth What energy changes take place?

Solution

When quick lime is added to water, following reaction takes place-
CaO + H2O Ca(OH)2 + heat
The dissolution reaction is exothermic in nature and a lot of heat is released during formation of slaked lime from quick lime. So water starts boiling.

Yes, all changes involve change in energy. Though form of energies will vary.
When a ball is thrown up, it gains potential energy (energy of a object due to position) and when gravity pull down the ball it gains kinetic energy (energy due to motion). So potential energy changes to kinetic energy.
