Write the functions of the following organs in reproduction.
(1) Vagina
(2) Stigma
(3) Ovaries
(4) Seminal vesicle and Prostate glands
(5) Uterus
(1) Vagina: Vagina is a muscular tube−like structure that extends from the vaginal opening to the uterus. It provides a pathway for sperms to enter the female reproductive system and for babies to come out of the womb during delivery.
(2) Stigma: It is part of the female reproductive system of the flower. It is present at the end of the style and has a sticky surface on which the pollen lands and germinates.
(3) Ovaries: It is the main reproductive organ in females. It produces and releases eggs. Ovaries also secrete estrogen, which is a hormone responsible for the development of secondary sexual characters in females after puberty.
(4) Seminal vesicle and Prostate glands: These are the accessory glands of the female reproductive system. They produce a viscous ejaculatory fluid, which is meant for nourishment of sperms and aids in their transport.
(5) Uterus: It is a pear−shaped muscular organ of the female reproductive system, commonly known as the womb. It is the site where the fertilized egg gets attached and starts developing. Its function is to provide enough space to the growing fetus and to push the baby out of the mother’s body during delivery by regular contraction and relaxation.
