Question

Write the short note on "equation of motion".

Open in App
Solution

An equation of motion is basically a mathematical expression which establishes a relationship between kinematic parameters like velocity, displacement, acceleration etc. So, it typically represents the behavior a physical system or a body in terms of a few kinematic variables all of which can be represented as functions of time. Here although the effect of force is studied the underlying cause behind it is not dealt with.

In classical mechanics, we deal with three equations of motion (or kinematic equations)

v = u + at

v2 - u2 = 2as

s = ut + (1/2)at2

where

t - time

s - displacement

u - initial velocity

v - final velocity
