Question

the electrical resistivity of silver is 1.60* 10 to the power -6 ohm meter .what wii be the resistance of a silver of length 10 m and cross sectional area 2 * 10 to the power -3.sq m?

Solution

we now that

R = ρl / A

where

A = 2 x 10-3 m2

ρ = 1.6 x 10-6 Ω.m

l = 10 m

so,

R = (1.6 x 10-6 x 10 ) / 2 x 10-3

or

R = (0.8 x 10-5) / 10-3

so, the resistance of the wire is

R = 8 x 10-3 Ω
