Question

The force required wto produce acceleration in a body of constant mass is directly proportional to the acceleration produced in the body. Express the above statement as a linear equation in two variables and draw the graph of the same by taking the constant mass equal to 3 kg . Read from the graph , the force required when the acceleration is produced is

(i) 2m/sec2 (ii) 3m/sec2

Solution

F = ma

This equation can be written in the form of y = mx, where m is the slope

In this case m = m = 3 kg

The graph will be a straight line passing through the origin.

When a = 2, F = 6 N

When a = 3, F = 9 N
