Question

The frequency range of visible light is from 3.75x1014 Hz to 7.5x1014 Hz. Calculate its wavelength range. Take speed of light=3x108 m/s.

Solution

we know that

c = νλ

or

wavelength

λ = c/ν

now,

in the first case

λ1 = c/ν1

here,

c = 3 x 108 m/s

ν1 = 3.75x1014 Hz

so,

λ1 = 3 x 108 / 3.75x1014 = 0.8 x 10-6 m

.

and in the second case

λ2 = c/ν2

here,

c = 3 x 108 m/s

ν2 = 7.5x1014 Hz

so,

λ2 = 3 x 108 / 7.5x1014 = 0.4 x 10-6 m

.

thus, the wavelength range will be

0.4 x 10-6 m - 0.8 x 10-6 m
