Question

The human heart pumps 4 x 10 race to -3 m cube of blood per minute through the arteries under pressure 130mm. The density of blood is 1030 kg/m cube . What the horse power of the heart?[ 1 hp = 746 w = 746J/s]

Solution

We know,

Power = Pressure × Volume per second

Pressure = 130 mm = 17331.9 Pa

Volume per minute = 4 × 10-3 m3/min

=> Volume per second = (4 × 10-3)/60 m3/s

So,

Power = 17331.9 × (4 × 10-3)/60 = 1.16 W

Or, power = 0.0015 hp
