1) The land under permanent pasture and tree crops known as groves have considerably decreased due to over population, provision of basic amenities like laying roads, railways, over grazing etc
2) The other fallow lands are either of poor quality or the cost of cultivation of such lands are higher. They are cultivated only once in two or three years
3) Waste land includes rocky, arid and desert areas and they are put to non – agricultural uses like construction of industries, settlements etc.
4) Continuous use of land for years without taking appropriate measures to conserve the same leads to land degradation which have serious effects on both society and environment
