the present age of a woman is 3 years more than three times the age of her daughter. three years hence, the woman's age will be 10 years more than twice the age of her daughter. find the present ages
let the present age of woman = x years
let the present age of daughter = y years
according to the given condition
x = 3y + 3
x - 3y = 3 ...............(1)
after 3 years :
woman's age =( x + 3 ) years
daughter's age = ( y + 3 ) years
according to the second condition
( x + 3 ) = 2 (y + 3) + 10
⇒ x - 2y = 13 .................(2)
subtracting (1) from (2) , we get
y = 10
put y = 10 in eq. (1) , we get
x = 33
so mother's present age = 33 years
daughter's present age = 10 years
