Question

two ironical resistance each of resistance of 10 ohm are connected series parallel in turn to a battery of 6 volt. calculate the ratio of power consumed in the combination and resistance in the two cases

Open in App
Solution

In series connection,

Equivalent resistance, Rs = 10 + 10 = 20 Ω

So, power consumed = V2/Rs = 62/20 = 1.8 W

In parallel connection,

Equivalent resistance, Rp = (10)(10)/(10+10) = 5 Ω

So, power consumed = 62/5 = 7.2 W

So, the ratio of power consumed in series to parallel is = 1.8 : 7.2 = 1 : 4
