Question

Two sources of equal e.m.f. are connected to an external resistance R. The internal resistance of the two sources are r1 and r2 (r1> r2). If the potential difference across the source having the internal resistance r1 is zero , then R is equal to ---------------

Solution

The external resistance ‘R’ should be very very large compared to r1 as well as r2 so that the current is negligible or tending to zero. Then the voltage drop across r1 will be negligibly small or zero.
