Question

two wires of equal length, one of copper and other of manganin have the same resistance. which wire is thicker?

Open in App
Solution

Rcopper=Rmanganin

lcopper=lmanganin

ρcopperlcopper/Acopper=ρmanganinlmanganin/Amanganin

ρcopper/Acopper=ρmanganin/Amanganin

Amanganin/Acopper=ρmanganin/ρcopper

from this we find that the area that wire is more which has high resistivity.

Resistivity of copper (ρcopper) is nearly 1.67 × 10-8 Ω m

Resistivity of manganin (ρmanganin) is nearly 4.5 × 10-8 Ω m

so the answer is Manganin
