Question

under what condition is the magnitude of the average velocity of an object equal to its average speed??

Open in App
Solution

We know that average speed = Total distance/Total time

and, average velocity = Total displacement/Total time

Magnitude of average velocity and average speed of a moving object is equal only if the object moves in a straight line and in such case the magnitude of displacement is equal to the distance travelled by the body.
