Question

using mirror formula, compute the position of an object placed in front of a concave mirror with focal length 'f' so that the image formed is of the same size as object.

Solution

Given,
Size of image, h' =Size of Object,h
m=-vu=h'h=1or v=-uNow, using the mirror formula,1f=1v+1u1(-f)=1(-u)+1(-u)=2(-u)[Object distance is always taken negative and the focal length for a concave mirror is negative)or u=2fThus, the object is placed at a distance '2f' i.e. at the centre of curvature.
