What are latitude and longitude?

Latitude and Longitude are geographic coordinates which are used to locate a position on the surface of earth. Latitudes are imaginary parallel lines which run from east to west, whereas longitudes or meridians are imaginary lines that which join the two poles, north and south. These are not parallels as they meet at two points. When these imaginary lines meet, they create a geographic coordinate.
