There is scarcity of water in many parts of India because of the following reasons:
1.There is over exploitation and excessive use of water in some parts whereas in other parts there is lack of access to sufficient water. So, in the entire country there is an inefficient and unbalanced use of water.
2.There is a rapid growth of population in India and the water resources are not sufficient enough to meet the rising demand of water.
3. There is a large scale deforestation which has disturbed the natural recharge of ground water. The establishment of new factories, buildings, roads etc have stopped the passing of rainwater underground. As, a result there no recharge of groundwater.
4.Excess use of chemicals and fertilisers have contaminated the ground water. Such water are not fit for human consumption.
5.Most of the rivers have been converted into drains because of the discharge of sewage and effluents.
