Solution

From the first puberty to the menopause a woman releases only about 400 eggs. This is because most of the eggs die off just after the birth of a girl. During each menstrual cycle about three eggs mature and the ripest one is released into the fallopian tube. If the ripen egg encounters a sperm, conception occurs. However if no sperm is encountered the ripen egg disintegrates. This process is repeated in the next menstrual cycle causing only about 400 eggs to get matured till the menopause. Also the ripen egg can be fertilized within 12-24 hours after its release otherwise it would die.
