Solution

Citric acid is very effective in cleaning metals which are tarnished or corroded. Citric acid is a weaker organic acid and will not cause harm to the metals.

Rust can be removed by dipping a piece of rusty iron into the citric acid solution. Corrosion also tarnishes copper alloys, including bronze and brass.

Citric acid also cleans copper. Hence citric acid is the best cleaning agent used to clean all copper and copper alloys like bronze and brass.
